I know many people were expecting to see me at the AMVCA this year. Trust me, I wanted to be there too.

It’s one of the biggest nights in our industry—a time to celebrate hard work, creativity, and the stories we tell. But sometimes, life has a way of stepping in and changing your plans, even when your heart is fully set on something.

The truth is, I couldn’t make it because I needed to be with my family. Something very personal came up, and I had to choose what mattered most in that moment. As much as I love my craft and my fans, family will always come first. It wasn’t an easy decision to make, but it was necessary.

I’ve received so much love and support from you all—your messages, your kind words, and even your understanding silence. It means more than I can ever say. I may not have been on the red carpet this time, but I felt your love deeply.
To everyone who was nominated, who won, who showed up looking stunning—I’m so proud of you. And to my fans, thank you for standing by me. I’ll be back, stronger and better, by God’s grace.
With love,
Funke Akindele
